MCG (Vic), Skilled Park (Qld) and ANZ Stadium (NSW) all chose and now use Pennant III at their venues.
If you want the best Australian Ryegrass (for colour) as indicated in the recent ANTEP trials then you are looking for Pennant III
· Pennant III is rated No1 for colour with a definite statistical difference.
Pennant III is the newest generation of elite high performance perennial ryegrass for Australian stadiums & sports fields.
DESCRIPTION Pennant III is an elite, new generation, heat and humidity tolerant perennial ryegrass dwarf, very dark green perennial ryegrass variety. Pennant III forms a leafy, fine textured sword that exhibits photoperiod sensitive growth which provides excellent late season vegetative tillering. Pennant III is also an endophyte enhanced perennial ryegrass with >80% Neotyphodium lolii endophyte which provides resistance to a number of leaf and crown feeding pests and improved tolerance to abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) stress. It is highly recommended for permanent turf application in the Australiangolfcoursejpg transition zone where heat and humidity may limit the adaptation of perennial ryegrass turf.
Excellent transitional & over sowing variety for warm season grasses in Australian conditions
APPLICATION Also, developed for permanent poly species turfgrass blends and Pennant III is an excellent choice for oversowing premium and high profile playing surfaces for all sports. With quick establishment and excellent colour it’s a perfect choice for stadiums that require an elite variety. mixtures containing improved perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, chewing, slender creeping and strong creeping red fescue, colonial bentgrass and turf type tall fescue. Pennant III is also used extensively in winter overseeding programs on greens, tees and fairways either alone or in species mixtures.
PERFORMANCE
No.1 for colour in current Australian ANTEP ryegrass variety trials
Significantally the HIGHEST colour result over all other ryegrass varieties
Pennant III has been tested for Australian conditions as a entry in the recent ANTEP (Australian National Turfgrass Evaluation Program) Pennant III has also been tested at Rutgers University for turf quality, disease resistance and persistence with excellent results.
Pennant III will be entered into the 2009 NTEP Perennial Ryegrass test across multiple sites in the U.S., Canada and at regional overseeding trials in the southeastern and southwestern U.S.
SEEDING
Perennial ryegrass is the fastest establishing cool-season turfgrass species available to the turf professional, lawn care professional and homeowner. Late autumn and winter turf quality ratings of newer varietiey like Pennant III demonstrate that they can rapidly develop and maintain an attractive turf cover. Pennant III has excellent germination, seedling vigour and establishment characteristics. Rates: Between 20-35 gms per sqm depending upon the desired result. Seed count of Pennant III is approximately 631,000 seeds per kg and dependent on year of harvest, location of production and seed production practices.
CULTURAL PRACTICES
Soil preparation: Prepare firm seedbed free of clods, sticks and vegetative debris. Seed should be in contact with soil. Improved elite perennial ryegrass such as Pennant III prefers well-drained loamy soils but perform better in high bulk density soils than Kentucky bluegrass and fine fescue. pH: Should be slightly acidic (5.5 -6.5) for favourable growth. High pH soils (alkaline) often contribute to yellow chlorotic leaf colour and are a direct result of iron chlorosis. Foliar applications of iron, chelated iron or soil amelioration to decrease soil pH are used to reduce or eliminate iron chlorosis in perennial ryegrass turf.
